Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Policy

1. Policy Statement

StartDesigning is committed to conducting business ethically, with integrity, and in accordance with all applicable laws. We have a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, forced labour, child labour, servitude and human trafficking in any part of our business or supply chain. Although StartDesigning is a small sole trader business and is not legally required to publish a statement under Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, we recognise the importance of taking reasonable steps to ensure that modern slavery does not occur within our business or, where reasonably practicable, within our supply chain.

2. Our Business

StartDesigning is a UK-based sole trader supplying Design and Technology educational products and resources to schools and educational organisations.

3. Our Commitment

  • Operating our business honestly, fairly and ethically.
  • Complying with all relevant UK employment and business legislation.
  • Treating all suppliers and customers with fairness and respect.
  • Avoiding any involvement with businesses that knowingly engage in modern slavery or human trafficking.
  • Taking appropriate action if any concerns are identified.

4. Supply Chain

StartDesigning sources products from UK suppliers and overseas manufacturers where appropriate.

  • Purchasing from established and reputable suppliers.
  • Expecting suppliers to comply with all applicable employment laws.
  • Requesting confirmation of ethical trading practices where appropriate.
  • Reviewing supplier relationships if concerns are raised.

Where evidence of modern slavery or unethical practices is identified, StartDesigning will review the relationship and may cease trading with the supplier.

5. Risk Assessment

  • The overall risk is considered low because the business employs only the owner. There are no agency workers or subcontractors. Business activities are administrative, educational and retail. Products are sourced through established suppliers.

6. Reporting Concerns

Any concerns regarding modern slavery or human trafficking will be investigated and supplier relationships reviewed where appropriate.

7. Responsibility

The owner of StartDesigning is responsible for implementing and reviewing this policy annually. This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if there are significant changes to the business or legislation.
